Who is eligible for compensation?

Eligibility does not depend on holding a land title. People with formal rights, people with customary or traditional rights, and people with a recognisable claim through occupation are all entitled to compensation for land and assets.

Occupants with no legal claim are not paid for the land itself, but are compensated for their structures, crops and trees and receive resettlement assistance if they were there before the cut-off date.

All of this is set out in an entitlement matrix: each category of affected person, each type of loss, and what they receive for it.
